FAQs about luxury hot chocolate 2024

Firetree’s luxury hot chocolate refers to a premium and indulgent version of the classic hot chocolate beverage. It is characterised by high-quality ingredients, rich flavours, and often a more sophisticated presentation.

Firetree’s luxury hot chocolate starts with high-quality chocolate, made from premium cocoa beans sourced from islands such as Madagascar and the Philippines. These beans are carefully sourced and processed to preserve their rich flavour and smooth texture. Perfect for those chilly British afternoons or evenings.

The texture of Firetree’s luxury hot chocolate is velvety and creamy, achieved through careful blending and heating techniques. For added luxury, we suggest you use frothed milk or whipped cream for added richness.

We believe that the taste notes in each of our different cocoa origins are unique. The terroir of each volcanic island is slightly different, in climate, elevation and the flora growing there; all of these differences are infused into the cocoa bean - so one chocolate may be light and citrusy whilst another is dark and caramelly.

To take a tour of our intimate luxury hot chocolate factory is to awaken the senses and experience the teasing-out, refining and perfecting of the unique taste profile of every cocoa bean.

These flavours are what make our artisanal hot chocolate so distinctive. Each premium hot chocolate we create uses cocoa from a single estate or farm holding. This allows you to enjoy the unique and distinct taste notes of each one, in the same way you might enjoy a fine wine.

Our hot chocolate is made from the same chocolate that goes into making our chocolate bars. We believe that the best hot chocolate is made using chocolate pieces that are melted into the milk, giving a much richer, smoother finish than powdered hot chocolate. And because it's the same chocolate we use in our bars, each hot chocolate has its unique mosaic of taste notes from deep red fruits to light citrus notes.

From working with the farmer to perfect the fermenting and drying of the cocoa beans to selecting the perfect low and slow roast, winnowing, grinding, conching and tempering the premium hot chocolate, every step requires an intimate understanding of how the cocoa bean is transformed into a luxury hot chocolate you can truly appreciate.

We make our hot chocolate in the same way as we make all of our chocolate. The cocoa beans are whole-roasted low and slow before being winnowed and ground. Next comes the conching and the tempering before the liquid chocolate is piped into long shoelaces. Once cooled, it's chopped into smaller pieces and packed into our presentation packs.

During the farming process, we wait for the cocoa pods to ripen and when they are ready it's up to the skill of the farmer to nurture the cocoa and harvest only those pods that are perfectly ripe.

Then it’s on to fermentation - more an art than a science. The best farmers can tell if they have fermented for long enough just by using their sense of touch – and years of experience.

The cocoa beans are then sun-dried before they’re sent to us and our hot chocolate mastery begins when we make each one here in the heart of the UK.

High-quality chocolate used in luxury hot chocolate contains antioxidants, particularly flavonoids, which may have potential health benefits such as reducing inflammation and improving heart health. Dark chocolate, in particular, has a higher concentration of antioxidants compared to milk or white chocolate.

Our luxury hot chocolate contains compounds like theobromine and phenylethylamine that can trigger the release of endorphins and serotonin in the brain, leading to feelings of pleasure and mood enhancement.

Firetree’s premium hot chocolate contains minerals like magnesium, copper, and iron, albeit in relatively small amounts. These minerals play essential roles in various bodily functions, including nerve function, blood cell production, and energy metabolism.

Use Firetree Luxury Hot Chocolate as a base for a delicious chocolate fondue. Melt the hot chocolate with a bit of cream or milk, and then use it as a dipping sauce for fruits like strawberries, bananas, and pineapple, or for marshmallows, pretzels, and cookies.

Incorporate Firetree Luxury Hot Chocolate into various dessert recipes, such as brownies, chocolate mousse, pudding, or cheesecake. The intense chocolate flavour of the hot chocolate can elevate these desserts to a whole new level of indulgence.

Use Firetree Gourmet Hot Cocoa to create chocolate-inspired cocktails or mocktails. Add a splash of hot chocolate to a classic cocktail like a martini or mix it with milk, cream, or coffee for a warm and delightful chocolate drink, perfect for the UK winter weather.

We source all of our cocoa beans from select single-estate family farms on volcanic islands in the South Pacific, Indian Ocean and Hispaniola.

They include Mindanao Island in the Philippines - a 'Goldilocks zone' for cocoa growing, Malekula Island in Vanuatu, Sambirano Valley in the Northwest of Madagascar, Karkar Island in Papua New Guinea - a particularly remote and difficult-to-reach island, Makira and Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands and a farm on the Northeast coast of the Dominican Republic.

All of our luxury hot chocolates (except our milk hot chocolate) are suitable for vegans, dairy-free and Kosher certified. Our plant-based milk hot chocolate alternative uses gluten-free oats. Gluten is not in any of the ingredients used to manufacture Firetree Hot Chocolate.

All of our hot chocolate is manufactured on equipment that also processes milk and nuts. We advise you to check the Ingredient & Nutritional Values tab on every product before purchase.
